Whiting

With views of Chicago’s skyline and all the benefits of lakefront living, Whiting is known for its vibrant and hospitable community.

Neighbors come together at annual events such as Pierogi Fest – a celebration that draws over 300,000 visitors with its parade, countless food vendors, beer and wine gardens, games, and live entertainment. Whiting’s Fourth of July parade is the oldest in Indiana, welcoming 40,000 attendees and hundreds of parade entries. Meanwhile, the Whiting Park Festival Orchestra and Chorus concert series brings guests to Whiting Lakefront Park every summer to enjoy live music by the water.

Several iconic attractions call Whiting home, including the interactive Mascot Hall of Fame. The museum features a range of exhibits, activities, and events that celebrate mascots from various North American sports teams. Guests can even build their own mascot during their visit. The city also boasts the Whiting Public Library, which was gifted to the community by Andrew Carnegie.

During the summer, residents can be found along the mile-long Whihala Beach, where they can swim, play sand volleyball, enjoy hiking and biking trails, and fish. The WhoaZone is also a crowd favorite featuring slides and trampolines as well as paddleboard, kayak, and beach cabana rentals.

Whiting offers easy access to downtown Chicago via I-90 and the nearby South Shore Line. Amtrak also serves the area with a stop at the Hammond-Whiting station in nearby Hammond.
